The ‘Heating and Air Conditioning’ section lists all the air conditioners available in the shop: split and multi-split air conditioners, portable air conditioners, air-to-water heat pumps and dehumidifiers, as well as accessories and installation materials. The units are sourced from Hantech and TCL and range from dehumidifiers with a capacity of 10 litres per day to heat pumps with a heating capacity of 16 kW.

Which air conditioner for which task

Technically, all these units work in the same way: a refrigerant circuit transfers heat from one side to the other. They differ in terms of where the heat is transferred to, how many rooms a unit can serve and how it is installed.

A split air conditioner is the standard solution for a single room: the indoor unit is mounted in the room, whilst the outdoor unit is fitted to the building’s façade. If several rooms are to be connected to a single outdoor unit, a multi-split air conditioner is required. Where drilling is not permitted – for example, in a rented flat – a portable air conditioner is the only option. A heat pump heats the whole house via radiators or underfloor heating. A dehumidifier does not cool the air, but reduces the humidity in the cellar, bathroom or utility room.

Air conditioners are only available as sets

We sell split and multi-split air conditioners exclusively as sets comprising an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units. Individual indoor or outdoor units are not available. The capacity, number of connections and control system of a set are therefore coordinated to work together. If you wish to cool several rooms, choose a multi-split set with the appropriate number of indoor units, as indoor units cannot be purchased separately at a later date.

Air conditioner with heating function

An air conditioner that heats is, technically speaking, an air-to-air heat pump. All split and multi-split sets in our range have a heating function. According to the technical data sheet, depending on the model, they operate in heating mode down to an outside temperature of −15, −20 or −25 °C. The SCOP – that is, the efficiency of heating over the entire season – ranges between 4.0 and 4.7 for the split sets. This means that one kilowatt-hour of electricity generates around four kilowatt-hours of heat. For individual rooms and the transitional season, this is an economical addition to the existing heating system.

If the entire house, including hot water, is to be supplied via the heating circuit, the air-to-water heat pump is the appropriate design. It transfers the heat to the heating water rather than to the room air. According to the data sheet, the monoblock units here heat down to an outside temperature of −25 °C and, depending on the make, deliver flow temperatures of up to 65 or 80 °C. Among the portable air conditioners, only three models are capable of heating.

Refrigerants and efficiency

Split and multi-split air conditioners use R32, a fluorinated refrigerant with a GWP (GWP) of 675. Almost all portable units and all dehumidifiers use R290, i.e. propane, with a GWP of 3. Both refrigerants are used in heat pumps: TCL uses R32, whilst Hantech uses R290.

Efficiency is indicated by the energy label. In cooling mode, the split systems achieve energy efficiency classes ranging from A+ to A+++ with a SEER between 6.1 and 8.5, whilst the multi-split systems achieve A++. The heat pumps are consistently rated A+++ for heating operation. Portable monoblock units, which discharge their exhaust air to the outside via a hose, achieve energy efficiency class A in cooling mode.

Installation by a specialist contractor

Split and multi-split air conditioners are filled with a fluorinated refrigerant. For their sale, Article 11(7) of the F-Gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573 and Section 15(3) of the ChemKlimaschutzV require proof that a certified specialist contractor has been commissioned to carry out the installation. You are responsible for commissioning the specialist contractor yourself; installation is not included in the purchase price. In the case of monoblock heat pumps, the refrigerant circuit is factory-sealed. The heating water and electricity connections must be carried out by a specialist contractor. Portable air conditioners and dehumidifiers are set up and plugged into a socket. Frequently asked questions about air conditioners

Which air conditioners can also provide heating?

All split and multi-split sets in the range. According to the technical data sheet, they can heat when the outside temperature is as low as −15, −20 or −25 °C, depending on the model. Among the portable units, two models from TCL TAC-12CHPB and the portable split air conditioner from Hantech with 12,000 BTU can provide heating.

Can I buy an indoor or outdoor unit separately?

No. Split and multi-split air conditioners are only available as sets. You should therefore plan ahead before purchasing to determine how many rooms need to be cooled and select the set with the appropriate number of indoor units.

Split air conditioner or portable air conditioner?

A split air conditioner is quieter and more energy-efficient, but requires a wall duct and installation by a specialist firm. The wall-mounted units in split sets specify a sound pressure level of 19 to 31 dB in the technical data sheet, whilst portable monoblock units range from 51 to 54 dB. On the other hand, a portable air conditioner does not require any installation.

Do I need a specialist contractor for an air conditioner?

Yes, for split and multi-split air conditioners. You must provide proof that you have commissioned a certified specialist firm at the time of purchase. Portable air conditioners and dehumidifiers are set up rather than permanently installed.

What is the difference between an air conditioner and a heat pump?

Both transfer heat via a refrigerant circuit. The air conditioner releases this heat into the room air, whilst the air-to-water heat pump transfers it to the heating water. This is why the heat pump heats the whole house via radiators or underfloor heating and can provide hot water, whereas the air conditioner only cools the room in which its indoor unit is installed.

Which refrigerants do the units use?

R32 GWP, with a of 675, is used in the split and multi-split air conditioners and in the heat pumps from TCL. R290, with a GWP of 3, is used in almost all portable air conditioners, all dehumidifiers and the heat pumps from Hantech.
