Growatt Aura 5000 Energy Storage System

The Growatt Aura 5000 is an energy storage system with an integrated inverter, which is connected on the AC side to existing PV systems or balcony power plants. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, it stores 5024 Wh in cobalt-free LiFePO4 cells and supplies 800 W to the domestic grid (Plug & Play) or up to 2500 W if it is permanently connected to the sub-distribution board.

How the storage unit works

In AC-coupled mode, the Aura is, according to Growatt, 100 per cent compatible with existing inverters. It works in conjunction with smart meters and adjusts its output in real time to match consumption; models mentioned include the Shelly 3EM, Shelly Pro 3EM, EverHome EcoTracker and Growatt SEM5-1 with a reading head SM-WLS01. Surplus solar power is stored at up to 2300 W (Plug & Play) or 2500 W (sub-distribution) and fed back into the grid at a later time. In the event of a mains failure, a separate off-grid output supplies loads with 2500 W, or 3.5 kVA for short periods; the switchover takes less than 20 ms.

According to Growatt, the unit starts up even at −30 °C and then heats itself up to the charging temperature range. During charging and operation, noise levels remain below 30 dB. It is controlled via an app using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
