Air Conditioner Installation Material
Installation materials for air conditioners here comprise mounting kits consisting of a wall bracket and copper pipework, as well as a wall bracket for the outdoor unit. These are designed to complement split and multi-split air conditioners whose kits are supplied without a bracket or suitable pipework.
Installation kits with brackets and copper pipework
Hantech’s installation kits are available with pipe lengths of 3, 4 and 5 metres. They contain a bracket and copper pipework with a 1/4-inch diameter for the liquid line and a 1/2-inch diameter for the gas line. The length depends on the distance from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit, including wall penetrations and bends. The maximum length permitted for a unit is specified in its data sheet; for the wall-mounted units in the split sets, this is up to 25 metres.
Selecting the correct pipe diameter
The diameter of the gas pipe depends on the unit. According to the technical data sheet, indoor units with 9,000 and 12,000 BTU have a 3/8-inch gas pipe, whilst those with 24,000 BTU have a 1/2-inch pipe. For 18,000 BTU units, both sizes are used; the largest units have a 5/8-inch pipe. The 1/2-inch installation kits are therefore primarily suitable for units in the 24,000-BTU class. The specifications for the gas and liquid pipes in the indoor unit’s data sheet are always decisive. With Quick-Connect kits, the pipe is already included.
Wall bracket for the outdoor unit
The SC450PR wall bracket from Gilardi supports the outdoor unit on the façade. It is made of galvanised steel, has adjustable mounting arms and, according to the manufacturer, is suitable for mono- and multi-split units. Further details can be found under Wall brackets for air conditioners.
Who installs the pipework
Cutting to length, flaring, evacuating and, where necessary, refilling the refrigerant pipe are tasks carried out on the refrigerant circuit. These must be carried out by personnel certified in accordance with the F-Gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573. When purchasing a split air conditioner, you must provide evidence that a specialist company has been commissioned to carry out the installation; the procedure is described under Professional installation of your air conditioner. Frequently asked questions about installation materials
What pipe diameter is suitable for my air conditioner?
This is specified in the indoor unit’s technical data sheet under ‘Gas and liquid lines’. For most units in the range, the liquid line is 1/4 inch; for some, it is 3/8 inch. The gas line is 3/8, 1/2 or 5/8 inch, depending on the unit’s capacity.
What length of pipework do I need?
As much as the distance from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit, including the wall feed-through and bends. The installation kits are available in lengths of 3, 4 and 5 metres.
Do I need an installation kit for every air conditioner set?
Not always. Many split-system kits come with a refrigerant pipe measuring three or five metres; the kits in the Hantech H-Pro series also include a mounting bracket. The exact contents are specified for each individual kit.
