Optimize where needed—otherwise let the power flow through

BRC Solar is a German manufacturer of PV optimizers. The devices are mounted on the modules and compensate for power differences within a string so that a weaker or shaded module does not determine the output of the entire string.

The difference from conventional optimizers lies in the circuit topology: BRC does not operate continuously in “DC/DC” mode, but instead uses a patented bypass circuit. As long as the module is delivering full power, the current is passed through with virtually no loss. Only when shading occurs does the optimizer activate, regulating voltage and current at the module level and decoupling the weak module from the rest.

No system dependency, no additional bus

The optimizers can be used independently of the inverter and require no additional communication components. The system architecture thus remains as simple as it would be without optimizers—even when retrofitting existing installations. For those who need transparency, the BRConnect gateway can be added: the M600-M communicates wirelessly and enables fault diagnosis at the module level.
