Module clamps
Centre clamps hold two modules side by side on the rail, whilst end clamps hold the last module in a row. The clamps from K2 Systems and Solitek fit module frames ranging from 25 to 50 mm, many of which are black.
Module clamps from K2 Systems and Solitek for frame heights of 25 to 50 mm, plus clamps for frameless glass-glass modules and TerraGrif contact elements for equipotential bonding. Three specifications are decisive for the choice: frame height, mounting system and colour.
Clamping range and system
The clamping range must cover the frame height specified in the module data sheet. The range includes 25–40 mm (Clamp MC and Universal End Clamp Clamp EC), 30–42 mm (OneMid and OneEnd), 30–50 mm (DomeClamp) and 34–38 mm (Centre Clamp XS). The DomeClamp is part of the Dome 6 flat-roof system; K2 also lists several versions for the MiniRail. According to K2, however, Clamp MC, Clamp EC and OneMid are not intended for use with Dome 6. To match black module frames, most clamps are available in black. The 150 mm-long Solitek clamps secure frameless glass-glass modules from SoliTek to the laminate.
How many clamps are needed per row
Centre clamps are positioned between two modules, whilst end clamps are situated at the edge of the row. On a pitched roof with two rails per row, this results in four end clamps and two centre clamps per module joint. The module manufacturer’s installation instructions specify where clamping may take place on the frame. A qualified electrician determines whether TerraGrif elements are required for equipotential bonding.
The clamps are mounted on the mounting rails or within the flat-roof mounting system. The frame height and design of the solar panels are specified in the data sheet. The substructure provides an overview of all components.
