Trapezoidal & metal roofs
For trapezoidal sheet metal and standing seam roofs: MiniRail sets from K2 Systems are fixed directly to the sheet metal using the screws supplied; BasicRail clamps and standing seam clamps are used for other types of sheet metal roofs.
K2 Systems fixings for sheet metal roofs: the MiniRail short rail for trapezoidal sheet metal, clips and fixing points for the BasicRail 22, the CF:x double standing seam clamp, and thread-forming screws with sealing washers. The profile of the sheet metal determines which variant is suitable.
Three ways to mount on sheet metal
- MiniRail MK2: a 385 mm long short rail that is screwed directly onto the trapezoidal sheet metal using four 6 × 25 mm self-tapping screws and EPDM strips. K2 specifies roof pitches of 5 to 75° and aluminium sheet from 0.5 mm or steel sheet from 0.4 mm for this application. Continuous rails are not required.
- BasicRail 22 with BasicClip: The clip, made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic, secures the continuous rail to the trapezoidal sheet. Screws are not supplied; according to K2, two approved screws are required per clip. According to K2, one BasicLock 22 is required for each BasicRail up to a total length of 9.60 m; this secures the rail against thermal expansion.
- CF:x double standing seam clamp: This clamps the SingleRail to the seam without drilling through the sheet. According to the K2 installation instructions, it is designed for sheet thicknesses of 0.4 to 1.0 mm.
Additional pitch with MiniFive
The MiniFive MK2 Front and End adaptors position modules on the MiniRail at a 5° angle and improve rear ventilation. Structural analysis determines whether the sheet metal and roof structure can bear the load.
The BasicRail 22 and the SingleRail are listed under mounting rails. According to K2, the DomeClamp module clamps, amongst others, are compatible with the MiniRail. For corrugated fibre cement, hanger bolts are available with the roof hooks; an overview of all roof types can be found under ‘Substructure’.
