K2 substructure: Which parts are suitable for which roof?
In short: Hooks, rails, connectors and clamps must belong to the same K2 system; the system name is included in the product name (SingleRail, SolidRail, Dome). First, the roof covering determines the hook, followed by the rail and clamp. The K2 planning software or a specialist contractor calculates how many hooks and what rail length a roof requires; ACTEC does not carry out planning or installation.

Four steps to finding the right parts
The substructure holds the modules in place on the roof. With K2 Systems, it consists of several components that are designed to work together: hooks or dome feet support a rail on which clamps hold the modules in place. If you mix components from different systems, you may not be able to achieve a suitable connection. This guide organises the components in the range; it is not a substitute for professional planning. All K2 components in the range can be found on the K2 Systems Substructure page.
1. Determine the roof covering. This determines which hook to use. For tiled roofs, the range includes the SingleHook 4S, SolidHook 4S+, CrossHook 3S and the 3S Long single hook, along with hook bolts and hanger bolts. For slate roofing, there is the Solid Hook SLA; for metal roofing, the metal roof tile for SingleHook FlatTile in anthracite and red; and for flat roofs, the Dome systems.
2. Select a system. SingleRail 36 and SolidRail are the rail systems for pitched roofs; Dome is the system for flat roofs. The accessories include the system name in their product names, for example ‘SingleRail 36 rail connector set’, ‘SingleRail hook bolt’ or ‘SolidRail anchor bolt’.
3. Select the rail and length. The SingleRail 36 is available in lengths of 2.40, 3.65, 4.80 and 5.95 m, with the 4.80 m version also available in black; the SolidRail Light is available in lengths of 2.40 and 4.80 m. Connectors, end caps and cross-connectors are specific to each system.
4. Select the clamp for the module. The Universal and MC clamps have a clamping range of 25 to 40 mm, whilst the DomeClamp clamps for the Dome systems have a range of 30 to 50 mm. The module’s frame dimensions are specified in the data sheet; frameless modules require clamps specified by the module manufacturer for this purpose.
Unravelling names
K2 refers to the hooks as SingleHook and CrossHook. The product name sometimes includes the German designation: ‘Einzelhaken 3S Lang’ is the SingleHook 3S Long. The base plate SingleBoard was previously called CrossBoard. The product code is usually found at the end of the product name and is the surest way to locate a part in the K2 catalogue.
What ACTEC does not cover
The number of hooks a roof requires, the appropriate rail length and whether the roof can bear the load depend on snow and wind loads, rafter spacing, roof pitch and roofing material. This is calculated by K2’s planning software or a specialist contractor. ACTEC sells the parts but does not carry out the planning or installation. Installation is carried out by a specialist contractor in accordance with K2’s installation instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
